Basics of general, inorganic and organic chemistry.

The course targets MSc students who did their BSc outside the BME Environmental Engineering programme and did not acquire knowledge in theoretical and practical analytical chemistry. Therefore the first third of the subject (4x3 hours) provides a short introduction into the classical and instrumental analytical methods. Further on, the students will acquire a theoretical and practical knowledge in the analysis of air, water and soil contaminants. They will learn about the most important environmental air, water and soil contaminants and their maximum allowable concentrations setup by the authorities. During the lectures the student will learn the most up-to-date sampling and analytical measurement techniques. In connection with this they will learn how to interpret the results of analytical measurements.

During the lab practicals the students will get a deeper understanding and practical skills in the most widely used analytical techniques.
